iPOD  GEN 4  LCD   REPLACEMENT  INSTRUCTIONS

 

 

1. OPENING THE UNIT:

Using a flat screwdriver begin to pry open the side of the case, starting around the area that lines up with Next/Fast-forward button. Gently twist the screwdriver and pry up the bottom corner closest to the screwdriver. With the screwdriver wedged inside the case, carefully work your way up to the top of the iPod, unclipping the case clips as you go. With one side of the case fully unclipped, using your finger open the case. OPEN SLOWLY to avoid damaging the ribbon cable connected to the inside of the metal cover. 2. UNPLUG POWER FROM UNIT:

                               

Using a flat screwdriver or tweezers , unplug the battery connector from the circuit board. This is the white connector with 3  colored wires ( white, red, black) on it.

3. UNPLUG METAL BACK COVER:

                                

Using a flat screwdriver or tweezer and your fingers, disconnect the ribbon cable connector that connects the Metal back cover to the circuit board. This will allow you to completely separate the metal back cover from the front.

4. UNPLUG HARD DRIVE:

Holding black strip on the ribbon cable connected to the hard drive, with fingers of one hand carefully disconnect and remove the hard drive with other hand.

5. UNSCREW CIRCUIT BOARD FROM FRONT COVER:

                                                                  

Using a T6 screwdriver remove the 6 screws from main board ( indicated in photo by arrows; two on left side, two on right and two down near battery).

6. OPEN CONNECTOR HOLDING THE LCD:

   

Locate the long white connector with this black piece on the left side. Using a flat screwdriver or finger nail, gently flip up the black retaining bar on connector from horizontal position to vertical. DO NOT pull the cable out or pry up the beige part of the connector where the cable enters the connector.

7. REMOVE BAD LCD:

                              

Carefully flip main board from the horizontal to the vertical position. Be careful not to damage the ribbon cable connected to the click wheel on the front case. Disconnect the LCD ribbon cable from the long connector on the main board. Lift out and remove defective LCD from front case.


 

8. Install New LCD:

 

Remove protective tape from the front of new LCD. Place the new LCD in the front case. Hold the circuit board at an angle and carefully thread the ribbon connector of the LCD into the connector on the main board by lowering main board and carefully pushing it into the corner where the connector is. Once all of the ribbon has been threaded into the connector,
close the connector by carefully depressing the black retaining bar into the original position. Lower the board into the horizontal position.

                                                     

 9. Reinstall main board and Put back the six screws.
10. Reinstall hard drive
11. Insert the ribbon cable connector from rear metal cover.
12. Insert battery cord connector in socket.
13. Snap the case back on.
14. Turn on iPod.
If Your iPod won't turn on or respond:
- Make sure the Hold switch is off.
- If that doesn't work, connect the iPod to the iPod power adapter and connect the adapter to a working electrical outlet. Your iPod battery may need to be recharged.
- If that doesn't work, your iPod may need to be reset.

To Reset iPod:
- Connect iPod to a power outlet using the iPod power adapter.
- Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again).
- Press and hold  the Select and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

15. Go to settings and adjust contrast as necessary. Consult your iPOD manual for info on how to      adjust contract of LCD.
